1900s Baseball Uniform Fold-down Collar & Pants
item MS00062

A rare 1900s baseball jersey and pants. Softest fleck fabric may be a wool-cotton blend. Pants are fully lined in white cotton and have a concealed leather crotch rivet. As players were only issued one uniform set per season, it wasn't uncommon to scratch together whatever shirts and pants were available for practice (we also have unmatched pants from this estate.) All of the baseball apparel in our collection is from the same estate and, fortunately, was put away in a trunk decades ago, only to recently be rediscovered when preparing the farmhouse for sale. Label is completely faded.

From the days when players traveled by train to distant cities for games. The player's grandson stated that his grandfather and teammates would travel hundreds of miles to play - sometimes stopping to play all of the local farmhands in teamless cities. A time when boys and men played for the love of the game.
